「認知症」を「にんち」と言っていません？　新人が知らない単語のおまけ（略語編

新人の知らない単語
の補足です。

略語は、専門（業界）用語の最も進化した形態といえます。
そんため、新人（特に他業種から来た人）には混乱の種になりやすいのです。

混乱状態

例を上げましょう

たとえば「ユニットケア」には
「UC」
「ユニット」
と大きく2つ略語が存在します。

前者
「UC」は各単語の頭文字を利用したパターン
英語（アルファベットを使用する他の言語も含む）標記される名詞に多いですね。

また別に、長い音を短縮するパターンもあります。
例）マッキントッシュ（Macintosh）→マック（Mac）
　　マクドナルド（McDonald’s）→マック、マクド

後者
「ユニットケア」日本語（発音ベースと言ったほうがいいかな）でよく見られるパターン。
その特徴は、分類、範囲の大きなものを消去していくことです。

「ユニットケア」は日本独自の概念で、ユニット＋ケアで作られた造語です。

私の記憶では
最初に厚生労働省（あれ？福島県でしたっけ？）は
「グループケアユニット型」という言葉で定義付けされ
その後「ユニットケア」と再定義されたと記憶しています。

ユニット（単位）＋ケア（介護）
※本来の英単語が持つ意味から極狭く標記していることお含みおきください。

のうち、より広い範囲を示す「ケア」が消去されて「ユニット」と表現しています。

認知症は、疾病症状を意味する「症」が消去され「認知」と略され

「あの人、認知ぽいよね」
「あの人認知だよね」
（良い使い方とはいえませんが）と現場の方々は使用しています。

「認知」が「認知症」の略語であることがわからないと

使い方や場面によっては、真逆のニュアンスをすら発生させます。
また、単語の意味を理解できるが故に「勘違い」を生む原因になります。

新入職員が多い現場は特に気をつけて貰いたいポイントです。
